It started when Mia was in high school. Her class consisted only 30 students. She was an introverted, shy girl. Nobody talked to her as she never gave them a chance to get close to her. She was never interested in any kind of relationship. Whenever it gets to a group work, nobody wants her. All she do was to wait if a group lacks member. Even when her classmate made fun of her, she kept quiet. She once told herself that she should no longer be an introverted girl, yet she doesn’t know why she can’t.

One day, a new boy called Jack entered her class. He was stocky and dorky. Mia believed he would be no different from her. However, he was actually outgoing, nice and smart boy. He was kind to everyone. He praises everybody, even her. He said, “Woah! I’m sitting next to a genius girl!” when he was sitting by her side.

Mia knew she wasn’t even that clever, but she don’t know why he was getting closer to her. He was crossing the boundaries she drew, getting to her closer and closer. Mia started to get annoyed when her classmates gossiping about them being together. It hurts her pride, totally. She wanted to shout out that she would never fall for a dork!

But Mia won’t deny that since he became acquainted with her quite well, a girl in her class called Mary also became closer to her and Jack. The other classmates paid more respect to Mia too. And they were soon known as the trio of the class. Mia hated it when her classmates took photos of her and Jack together and they would make fun of them. She doesn’t want this dork-head Jack! They even edited both their photos and made them look like a couple. But Mia have to admit, that she was soon able to open up herself to him, telling him every single secrets of hers.

Entering polytechnic, Mia, Jack and Mary entered the same school, though majoring in different faculties. Mia was no longer an introverted girl. She slowly realises that she was in love with Jack, but was still too shy to admit that she like an ugly dork.

One day, Mary asked Mia to talk privately with her.

Mary: Umm… Well… Mia, you see… I want to ask you something
Mia: What?
Mary: Ummm well… Aaagh it’s embarrassing!
Mia: Tell me quick!
Mary: Umm… Do you… By any chance, in love with Jack?
Mia: Nope

Mia don’t even know why she answered “no”.  Maybe it’s because she wasn’t ready to take the fact that she was in love with a man who wasn’t reliable, and the top of that, bad figure. Moreover she was too nervous to digest the words before replying.

Mary: seriously?
Me: yeah
Mary: then… Can you guess why I’m asking you this?

This made Mia insecure. She was too naive to think that Mary was just randomly asking. And her guess was right. Mary likes Jack, just how she liked him. She told Mia how she has been in love with him; how Mary was glad that Mia wasn’t in love with Jack.

Mia regretted for not telling the truth. She felt restless. She knows that her best friend was in love with her crush, and she lied to her. She doesn’t want to stab Mary from the back, but she could no longer hold on to those feelings. She love him, that time, she was sure, she love him. Madly, like there was no tomorrow.

It was a hard decision for her to decide that she’ll stay away from Jack, to give Mary a chance. Mia promised, the next time she meet Jack, she would no longer treat him as she used to. She vowed that she took him only as a brother. However, it was easy said than done. There’s no way Mia could suppress this passion. As a result, she was only getting closer to Jack, as she was afraid that Mary would someday snatch him away for her. Whenever she sees jealousy in Mary’s eyes, she felt guilty and knew that she mustn’t do this. But seeing them together, she felt like dying.

On Mia’s 21th birthday, Jack brought her a bucket of roses, 21 in number. As he knelt down, he said, “Mia. You see, I’ve been in love with you all this time. I am madly in love with you. You are my everything. I’d do everything for you.”

Mia was stuck at his words. It was unexpected. Her feet felt heavy, as heavy as the rain outside. She didn’t know what to do. Making the matter worse, she realized, standing behind Jack, across her, was Mary, covered in tears. Jack then opened the red box he has been holding, inside was a star joint with a moon shaped ring.

“I… Jack, that was touching. I love you too… I love you more than you think I do…”. Before Mia could proceed further, his lips landed on hers. He sucked her lips as his tongue wondered around her mouth. He used his arms to corner her. She tried to push him, yet to no avail. In the end, she could do nothing but to surrender. Without realizing, she responded to his kiss. It was beautiful.

When Mia came to her senses, she pushed him away in one shot. He was shocked, and she added, “Jack, I think you misunderstood, I only take you as a brother.”

As she rejected him, he no longer talks a lot to her nor Mary. Mia was feeling guilty as she had hurt him, and herself too, but if she didn’t, what would become of Mary? Ever since witnessing that kiss, that fateful kiss, Mary never talked to her anymore.

She then decided to work overseas, to forget about Jack. To forget how regretful she was for rejecting her first and only love. She was too stupid to deny her own feeling, only to cause this awkward atmosphere.

2 years later, Mia returned. Soon, she arranged a casual meet-up with Jack and Mary. She felt nervous, yet excited to see them. Never did she believe that once again, she could sit on the same table with them. She missed this atmosphere so much. “Well… I have something to talk about.” Mary said while giving her a bright smile. “Me too. You go first.” Mia replied.

Mia thought this would be the beginning of their rebuilt friendship. A nice and new beginning.

“Here.” Mary said while handing Mia over a card, “that’s our wedding invitation. It’s tomorrow. I’m sorry for only telling you this now. Due to your absence, we couldn’t tell you about the news immediately.”

Mia could not believe in what she heard, neither does she want to. Her sight blurred, she don’t want to believe this fact, this cruel fact. She hoped this was only a dream, yet that dream completely vanished when she saw Jack and Mary’s name on the card. Her tears was soon formed and gathered, yet she held it on, not trying to make herself look more embarrassing. Mary even offered her to be their bridesmaid. And Mia agreed to it quickly.

That night, Mia cried in her bed. She cried till there was no more tears left, no more voice left. She cried for hours. She wished she could turn back in time, or at least stop the time. She don’t ever wish that clock would turn 00:00.

The next day, in the morning, she was still lying in bed, thinking about how foolish she was to free that love, true love, last love. However, she took the challenge one more time. She put on a gown and came to Jack’s house. She saw him in his suit already. He looked handsome, gorgeous in her eyes. For her, it felt like a cinderella’s dream to see a living prince right in front of her eyes now. He then returned her stare. That stare she have been missing so much these two years, the stare that she’ve been missing like crazy.

“Jack I know this might be foolish, but I swear to heaven I love you. I love you like there was no tomorrow. I never stopped a day without loving you, I…” before Mia could finish, Jack cut her off. “That was sweet, Mia. You reminded me of how foolish I was to confess to you two years ago. But you won’t trick me. I’m aware that you take me as a sibling.” he said. “No! No! Jack! I’m not playing tricks on you. I swear I love you! You’re my first love, I love you whole-heartedly! I can’t see you with some other woman.”

“Mia… I could no longer differentiate between lie and truth, thus, let me go, despite the truth, if you really love me, I can’t hurt Mary for being with me. I won’t be so selfish. After all, I have no feelings for you anymore. I’m completely Mary’s.” He walked away, straight pass Mia. She knew she was hurting deep inside, yet Mia gathered her courage and faced Mary. She accompanied her in car, to the wedding hall.

As soon as they arrived, Mary received a call. And her face went pale afterwards. “Jack, he… He got into an accident. Car accident and currently in hospital!” she said.

Mia fell into despair. These transparent liquid called tears came out from her eyes. She could no longer hold on her tears. Mia and Mary rushed to the hospital, to the emergency room, only to see Jack covered with a white cloth. He was dead. He instantly passed away right after the accident.

Suddenly, a nurse came into the room to see the whole family who came. “Anyone called Mia?”
“Me… I’m Mia.”
“Here. It was found held tight by the deceased.” replied the nurse and she soon went away.

She handed over a small box which contained a ring. A familiar moon shaped ring. In the ring was written “Jack&Mia”. It was the exact same ring as the one Jack used to confess to her two years ago.

Then, Mia knew, that he hasn’t forgotten about her, not even once, until now, until he died.

He brought that love till the end of his life.
