Damien Rice – The Blower’s Daughter

The song was featured in the film “Closer” starring Julia Roberts,  Jude Law & Natalie Portman. It’s a good movie but this song is simply Awesome with a capital A.

This is just a heavy song for me. Every-time I hear it, it not only makes me sad, but also on the brink of tears. It’s embarrassing . . . Such was its powers . . There is too much emotion in this song. The lyrics are something that most of us could relate to. I certainly did. But it is his superb voice that played the most crucial part here. Its incredibly haunting & it stayed in my mind and makes me sad and lost in the wilderness of thoughts and memories. And if a song has that kinda effect on you, it means the singer did his job brilliantly and you have to respect and acknowledged it.

Kudos to you Mr Damien Rice. This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. And nope, I’m not exaggerating one bit. Only those who truly loved, can understand this song. If you haven’t heard it before, then go ahead & buckle up. Enjoy the emotional ride

Within Temptation & Anneke van Giersbergen – Somewhere

This song has got to be one of the greatest duets I’ve ever heard in a long time.

Two of my favourite female rock singers singing a beautiful ballad of pure class together. Sharon Den Adel of Within Temption and Anneke van Giersbergen of The Gathering truly compliment each other on this live performance.  If you listened & pay attention, you’ll noticed how they balanced up the vocal harmonies & sang to each other’s strengths . .  And they made it seem so effortless. This is what singing should be like.  Hauntingly beautiful, strong vocal delivery & nice lyrixx. And how I truly wished I was in the crowd.

Birdy – Skinny Love

This girl is only 15.  Her name is Jasmine Van den Bogarde.  Btw Birdy is her stage name. Why on earth she choose that name, well, I guess only her & God knows.  Btw for a 15 year old, she got a hauntingly awesome voice. This song is a magnificient cover of Bon Iyer’s original song, which is quite famous in Europe.

But I gotta admit, I prefer her voice over Mr Iyer.  Cuz it’s simply magical. I loved the lyrics, loved the song. Its just her voice and the piano that doing all the work here. It’s minimal & simple but its effective & emotionally magnificent. It works for me.

Hooverphonic – Mad About You

I am mad about this song. A belgian band whose singer’s voice is as captivatin’ as her beauty. If you ask me to choose between her voice & beauty, I would have had a hard tyme choosing.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes – Home

If you see the music vid below to this song, you might have thought that it’s from the 60s or 70s, judging from the quality of the vid and song. Well I dont blame you, cuz it certainly sound and looks like it does. But its not. This song was made in 2009 by a band that comprises of 10 musicians. They call themselves Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes. And they have an aim – to bring back the hippie culture through their music.

Yeah, it sounds a lil weird in this modern times but then again, its working. This song is a huge hit in European countries and also in the US. Its being used in many TV ads and also sitcoms, causing this song to get noticed and also climb up the charts. And how not to love this song? Its feel – good, vibrant & it makes you happy. Well, in case you havent heard this, you should. Welcome back hippie culture. For you are truly missed.

Tonic – If You Could Only See

A kick – ass song. Poetic and truthful. One of the great songs of my growin’ up phase. This memorable song takes me back to the summer of 97′ . . it’s just as good as it was then as it is now & it reminds me how awesome the 90’s were and how shitty the music of today is. Goodbye 90’s music. Its the last “true era” of music as far as I know it.
